We developed an interactive Dispatch Emergency Response Game designed to teach young children how real-world public services respond to emergencies. In our game, players take on the role of a dispatcher, where they must quickly decide which service—police, ambulance, fire, or other city vehicles—should respond to different emergency scenarios.
We built the system around a physical city-style board and integrated hardware components like a Raspberry Pi Pico, RFID scanners, buttons, LEDs, and LCD displays to create a hands-on, immersive experience. During gameplay, players are presented with situations such as fires, medical emergencies, or crimes, and they must choose the correct response. The system then provides immediate feedback using lights, sounds, and screen messages, reinforcing learning in real time. Each player gets multiple turns, and the game tracks performance to generate a final score based on accuracy and decision-making.
Through this project, we combined engineering design with user-focused gameplay. We implemented support for multiple players, created over 100 possible scenarios, and designed interactions to be simple and intuitive for younger users. This project strengthened our skills in microcontroller programming, hardware/software integration, and debugging, while also allowing us to create an engaging and educational experience that highlights the importance of community services.
